Historical Background

The Orland-Haigh Airport was constructed by the U.S. Army during World War II as an auxiliary training field for the Chico Army Airfield. The facility was turned over to the County for general aviation use after World War II and named in honor of a County Supervisor.

The runway originally had a diagonal layout from northwest to southeast. The orientation was changed in accordance with the prevailing winds. An extension was added about 1970 to accommodate a business jet then based at the Airport.
