Juvenile Hall

Once processed in the juvenile court system there are many different pathways for juveniles. Whereas some juveniles are released directly back into the community to undergo community-based rehabilitative programs, some juveniles may pose a greater threat to society and to themselves and therefore are in need of a stay in a supervised juvenile detention center.

Tehama County Detention Facility Information:

All youth requiring incarceration in juvenile hall will be transported to the Tehama County Juvenile Detention Facility. A Glenn County Probation Officer will be on-call to handle arrests that may require a youth to be transported to Tehama County for booking and housing.

Telephone Calls

• Youth may call you (parents/guardian only) one time for free on the first day he/she is arrested.
• Youth may call his/her attorney and employer, one time for free on the first day he/she is arrested.
• Youth may call you (parents/guardian only).  He/she will be provided an account for the phone system at the Tehama County Juvenile Detention Facility. The cost/fees for this service will be the responsibility of the youth and his/her or family/guardian.
• Staff with approve phone numbers/calls through the youth’s assigned Probation Officer/Staff.
• Youth may NOT speak to anyone other than parents/guardians during these phone calls, unless prior authorization is given by his/her Probation Officer.
• Youth may call his/her attorney for free, when requested. (Same request may be made in writing).

Visitation

Every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, except county holidays.  Visitation is also available for Sundays, by appointment only. (Must call during regular business hours.)

Visitation is for parents/guardians only, unless prior authorization is granted by their assigned probation officer.  Please note that children are not allowed at visitation. 

Mail

Youth will be provided supplies (envelope, paper, postage) for two free letters each week, to be sent to their parent or guardian. They may receive additional mail supplies through the mail from their parent/guardian. Youth may then send as many letters as they would like, unless restrictions are in place by their probation officer or the court. All incoming mail must have a name and return address on the envelope.  Only the person listed on the return address may send a letter in that envelope. Do not draw on the outside of envelope. The mailing address is P.O. Box 99, Red Bluff, CA 96080.

If the above rules are not followed, mail may be returned to sender, or placed in the youth’s property.

Medical Concerns for Your Child

You should immediately report any medical concerns for your child to the juvenile detention staff and they will speak to the medical staff about your concerns.  Report any medical condition/diagnosis and medication your child may be prescribed and bring any medication to the Tehama County facility for review and authorization by medical staff. Your child will receive all medical and dental care, as recommended by the medical staff. You need to sign medical consent forms as soon as possible.

Youth Orientation

Youth will be provided an orientation/rules guide after entering the juvenile hall. He/she will be responsible for following the rules as outlined in the orientation/rules guide and will be held accountable for his/her behavior.

Items You May Bring Your Child

Parents/Guardians are not allowed to bring any outside items into the facility unless prescribed by a physician.  There will be a points system used as a behavior modification system and the youth are allowed to purchase items through the commissary once he/she has earned the appropriate level. 

Emergencies

An evacuation plan is in place should an emergency occur. Staff will direct all youth and visitors to the appropriate locations. Please remain calm and follow staff directives immediately.

School

Your child’s education needs will be assessed and delivered according to the law. School staff will obtain all prior school records so that your child will receive his/her appropriate school credits and any Individualized Education Plan information. 

Court Process

If officials determine there is enough legal cause for your child to remain in custody, the court process will begin. A probation officer will be assigned to your child’s case and he/she will contact you by telephone (if possible) to advise you when your child will be appearing in court. Please contact the Glenn County Probation Department and provide your current phone number and address.

Misconduct/Abuse:

The Glenn County Probation Department and the Tehama County Probation Department have a ZERO TOLERANCE standard for all forms of sexual misconduct including sexual harassment, between juvenile offenders, staff, volunteers, contractors, and visitors.  This zero tolerance on sexual misconduct applies to all facilities and programs providing services to youth under the jurisdiction of the Glenn County Probation Department and the Tehama County Probation Department.  All allegations of sexual misconduct will be investigated. Any person determined to have violated the above standard will be referred to the district attorney for criminal prosecution.
