Chrome Fire Evacuations Lifted

Glenn County, CA – Evacuations have been lifted for the Chrome Fire in western Glenn County; including the community of Elk Creek. Residents may return to the area but are encouraged to remain prepared to evacuate should conditions change. Use caution in the area and watch for fire equipment entering and exiting the roadways. Non-residents are asked to avoid the area. The evacuation shelter at Veterans’ Memorial Hall in Willows is closed.

The fire is 2242 acres and 35% contained with no growth overnight. Control lines have been set around the perimeter of the fire and numerous fire resources are on scene to continue firefighting progress. Fire conditions can rapidly change as winds pick up this afternoon. Please be aware of changing conditions and stay tuned for emergency alert and warnings.

9-1-1 Emergency line outage continues west of Interstate 5 and south of Corning through Glenn County. If you have an emergency and are in the west side of the County, please contact Glenn County Sheriff’s Office dispatch directly at 530-934-6431.  We are currently working on the issue with AT&T.

Power outages have occurred in the area of the fire. PG&E will be working with fire to enter the area and address the outages.

The road closure to Stony Gorge has been lifted. Residents may enter the area and utilize the facilities.

Residents in the area should remain prepared to evacuate:

  • Identify potential evacuation routes
  • Fuel up your car
  • Identify transportation if you do not have a car
  • Have an emergency go-bag with essential supplies for you, your children, and any pets
    • Essentials include:
      • Medications and prescriptions
      • Glasses
      • Clothing
      • Pet supplies including crate, leashes, food, identification tags, and photo
      • Comfort items
      • Any items you will need to shelter for 3 days
