PRESS RELEASE

Glenn County Historical Records Announcement

Old Newspapers For Sale to the Community

*****

The Glenn County Historical Records Commission is offering old newspapers for sale to the Community.  The newspapers have been stored for many years by the County Clerk as a required mandate. This mandate has been eliminated, whereby the papers were turned over to the Commission.  Many newspapers have been microfilmed, with the microfilm and those that have not been microfilmed, to reside at the Willows Library, with the exception of a few that the County will keep to display to the public.

Knowing that there are many interested community citizens in the early history of Glenn County, and as a fund raising effort, the Commission is holding this sale to raise funding for the proper restoration and/or preservation of other Glenn County historical records.

The papers are dated from January 3, 1917 through June 30, 1961. They consist of the Glenn Transcript; Willows Journal and Willows Daily Journal; Orland Register and Orland Unit newspapers. You may view a full listing of dates and prices, and print an order form, by visiting the Glenn County Historical Records Commission website at: www.countyofglenn.net listed under “Current News”, and also available in the Board of Supervisors office and the Department of Finance.  You may contact Sandy Soeth or Doris Cooper c/o Historical Records Commission at ssoeth@countyofglenn.net (530) 934-6400 / dcooper@countyofglenn.net (530) 934-6756 for more information.  This sale is ongoing until all papers have been sold and are offered on a first come, first served basis. You may call or email one of the above Commission members or submit your order form to the Board of Supervisors at 526 W. Sycamore St., Willows, CA 95988.  Upon completing an order form, newspapers may be picked up by a scheduled appointment.  View the Old Newspaper Inventory.
