World Breastfeeding Week Celebration
Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week
Orland, Ca – Join the celebration, World Breastfeeding Week is August 1st – 7th. The Glenn County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program will be hosting a community celebration Friday, August 5th at Library Park in Orland. This celebration of breastfeeding women will be from 10:00 am to noon and will include fun activities for the whole family: cooking demonstrations, snacks, music, local resources, a raffle, and much more. Join us at 11:30 am to hear from the Glenn County Health Officer, Dr. James Corona.
Glenn County WIC is proud to support the breastfeeding women in our community. Glenn County surpasses the State in breastfeeding rates among WIC mothers. Nearly 47% of WIC mothers in Glenn County breastfeed their babies compared to the 39% across the State.
Not only does breastfeeding provide health and well-being benefits for mother and baby, but it is also good for our environment. Breastfeeding is a sustainable resource that is produced and delivered naturally. Infant formula requires energy to produce, package and transport adding to our garbage and pollution footprint.
