Football and COVID-19 Guidance
GLENN COUNTY, CA – Glenn County has become aware that some residents are under the impression the Glenn County Public Health has cancelled football at some local high schools. This is not the case.
The issue arose when some high school football players at two local schools tested positive for COVID-19. When student athletes test positive, the schools are required to follow the California Department of Public Health’s guidelines for contact tracing. However, due to the nature of team sports and the interaction of student athletes, contact tracing is extremely difficult. In these situations, Dr. Jared Garrison recommends that the entire team be quarantined for 10 days. Such a recommendation was consistent with those being made by the Local Health Officers in Butte, Tehama, Yuba, and Sutter counties and is made with the utmost concern for the student athletes and their families.
Glenn County Public Health does not enforce state guidelines for student athletics. However, the department and county staff do provide guidance and assistance.
For more information, Glenn County Public Health Department can be contacted Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 530-934-6588 or visit www.countyofglenn.net/COVID19.
