Glenn County residents are encouraged to prepare for the multiple storms impacting our region. Significant rainfall from multiple storms may result in flooding impacts. Residents with property prone to flooding should take precautionary steps such as clearing debris from drainage systems, elevating or moving items, and preparing sandbags.
Sand and sandbags are available to the public at the following locations throughout the storm season:
- Hamilton City – across from the Fire Dept. on 1st St.
- Elk Creek – across from the Fire Dept. on County Road 306
- Willows –Public Works Willows Maintenance Yard 777 N. Colusa St.
- Orland – Orland City Maintenance Yard, Corner of County Road 200 and County Road M
The heavy rainfall may result in short term closure of roadways prone to slides or flooding. Currently, Forest Highway 7 (FH7) and County Road 309 in western Glenn County are closed from the Forest Boundary west to their termination (CR 309) or to the County Line (FH7) due to debris flow and slides resulting from the August Complex burn scar. The roads will reopen when road conditions are safe for vehicular traffic.
High winds and heavy rainfall may lead to additional roadway impacts and power outages. To report a storm related impact to a county roadway, please call Glenn County Public Works at 530-934-6530 or after hours call Glenn County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 530-934-6431. Storm impacts to report include downed trees, limbs, plugged drains or other issues impacting a county road.
At this time, we do not anticipate any major flooding impacts along the Sacramento River in Glenn County. The Sacramento River will be at Monitor Stage at both Hamilton City and Ord Ferry but is not forecasted to hit flood stage over the 7-day forecast. Butte City will remain below Monitor Stage. River forecasts can be viewed on the California Nevada River Forecast Center.
All residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts through Glenn CodeRED and community alerts through Nixle. CodeRED emergency alerts is used to convey life threatening emergency notifications such as evacuations. Nixle community alerts provide general information such as major roadway closures. Residents can enroll by going to our website www.countyofglenn.net/OES and selecting CodeRED or Nixle.
