BRIDGE 11C0057 OVER SALT CREEK ON COUNTY ROAD 306 CLOSURE UPDATE #3

On January 23, 2023, Cal-Trans Structure Maintenance & Investigations met with Glenn County Public Works Agency staff to evaluate the bridge substructure (footings, abutments, subgrade, approaches, and scour). On January 31, 2023, Cal-Trans closed the critical finding issued for this bridge, confirming that the scour had not progressed significantly and that once the approaches have been repaired, the structure will be stable and can be reopened to traffic.

On February 1, 2023, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued Amendment No. 6 to Notice of a Major Disaster Declaration. The amendment includes Glenn County among those areas determined to have been affected by the declared disaster and qualifies the county to leverage federal resources and funding.

Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Emergency Relief (ER) program provides funds for roads and bridges that suffered serious damage from the declared disaster. Emergency Relief funding supplements resources from States, localities and other Federal agencies to help in the repair of facilities damaged by eligible events. Roads and bridges that are damaged as a direct result of a natural disaster are eligible for ER funds.

The Glenn County Public Works Agency staff contracted with a consultant to provide an engineering solution to facilitate the most economical and feasible process to quickly reopen the bridge to traffic. Beginning this week surveying field crews will gather topographic ground data at the existing bridge to be utilized for construction on the proposed repairs.

The bridge will remain CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC until the approaches can be repaired.

The Glenn County Public Works Agency staff are working diligently through the process to repair the bridge. We understand the impacts of this closure to the residents in the community, however, the safety of our residents and motorists is a priority.
