Glenn County Awarded $4.4M for Parks Accessibility and Beautification Project

The Clean California Local Grant Program managed by The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) funds a wide range of community enhancements, such as litter abatement, landscaping and art installations, greening, and community identification projects. Caltrans received 329 applications that sought $758,485,147 in grant funds. 105 projects, or approximately 30% of the received applications, totaling $295,993,146 in requested grant funds were awarded.

The Glenn County Facilities Department worked hard to develop a successful application in an extremely competitive grant program, within a very short time frame. The support of the Board of Supervisors and County Administrative Officer made the award of funding possible. The total award for Glenn County was $4,480,790 for improvements at three locations. The application focused on three parks located in Glenn County which include, Willows Memorial Park, Orland Memorial Park and Walker Creek Park. Below is a description of improvements at each location:

Mardy Thomas Appointed New Director of Planning and Community Development Services

At the May 3, 2022 Glenn County Board of Supervisors meeting, Mardy Thomas was appointed as the new Director of Planning and Community Development Services effective May 4, 2022. The Director of Planning and Community Development Services position is responsible for the direction and administration of the functions of permitting, planning, development, building inspection and building services; and to serve as the County’s Planning Director as established in the County Code.

AS HEARD IN COURT MARCH OF 2022

PEOPLE V. RAYMOND EDDIE VALLES - Defendant was previously convicted of felony violations of Penal Code section 29800(a)(1), Felon in Possession of Firearm and Health and Safety Code section 11366, Maintaining a Place for Controlled Substances and was found in violation of probation for the 3rd time. Defendant was sentenced to 2 years 8 months state prison. This case was prosecuted by ADA Neumann with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Moize. 

Orlanda Inn Demolition Will Make Way for Housing with a Purpose

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (Department) has announced that the County of Glenn and the City of Orland, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter has been awarded a Homekey Round 2 award in the amount of $8,756,945.

A team from Glenn County, The City of Orland, State Housing and Community Development (HCD), Thurmond Consulting, and Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter (HFHYS) has dedicated thousands of hours to obtain State of California Homekey funds. This funding brings the ability to completely replace the current 13 room, dilapidated motel site with 33 new rooms of permanent, affordable housing for people in Glenn County who desperately need it.
