Missing Persons in Mendocino National Forest

Willows, CA – Glenn County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for two missing persons: Maia Herman – Kitami, age 18, and Carlos Hernandez Jr., age 21. Kitami and Hernandez Jr. departed San Francisco on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, to go camping in the Alder Springs area of the Mendocino National Forest. Kitami and Hernandez Jr. were expected to return home Friday evening, February 1st. Family reported the missing persons to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office Saturday night, February 2nd.

Glenn County Sheriff’s Office initiated a search Sunday, February 3rd. Search and Rescue continue to actively search the Alder Springs area of the Mendocino National Forest, their last known whereabouts. Additional Search and Rescue resources have been requested are being coordinated by California Office of Emergency Services (Cal-OES).

Glenn County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are actively investigating the case to trace any known movements from their last reported whereabouts on January 30th.

Hernandez Jr. and Kitami are driving a yellow 2004 Jeep Wrangler with a soft top, license plate number 7NAD240. They were reportedly packed with camping gear, snow gear, food, an extra car battery and snow chains.

Carlos Hernandez Jr. is 21 years of age and approximately 6-3”, 140lbs with brown eyes and brown collar length hair. Maia Herman - Kitami is 18 years of age, approximately 5-4”, 160lbs with blue eyes and curly brown hair. See attached photos of the missing persons and their vehicle.
