Pest Exclusion Program
This program is the first line of defense for California’s agriculture and the environment against the invasion of exotic pests. The use of quarantines provides protection and prevents the introduction of pests that are not known to occur in California or have very limited distribution. Our staff conduct inspections of incoming plant materials from areas known to contain these pests. Seed crops grown in Glenn County are inspected for disease during the growing season to maintain a high standard of cleanliness. Many of the crops harvested in Glenn County are exported to foreign countries. Phytosanitary certificates are issued declaring that the commodity meets the pest-free requirements of the importing country. A strong Pest Exclusion program is essential to the agricultural industry as the establishment of these new pests may adversely effect our natural environment as well as negatively impact the State's economy.
